About Us

Caring, confidential support to people facing pregnancy and family related issues is the focus of LifePlan of Niles, Michigan. All our services are offered without any discrimination, and often extend to the family or significant others related to the woman. Many of our clients come for a confidential pregnancy test, but also recieve maternity and baby clothing or other supplies. We strive to graciously provide an opportunity for each client to hear the good news of salvation in Jesus Christ. It is our ongoing support from our partners, sponsors and volunteers that allows LifePlan to continue serving those in need in our community.

Our Mission

LifePlan exists to spread the GOSPEL by serving and teaching families, churches, and communities to embrace God’s value for human life, born and unborn. The GOSPEL is the good news of Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection for our sins. This message fits within the larger story of creation, fall, redemption, and restoration, and is lived out by individuals through faith and repentance in the power of the Holy Spirit.
The GOSPEL is foundational to our ministry because it helps us address the deep problems giving rise to and/or associated with crisis pregnancies. Though we are sensitive to the complex social, moral, and psychological factors affecting women in crisis, we believe that the deepest problem of all is a broken relationship with God. This problem cannot be solved by mere morality.
Women and men in crisis need more than practical education and moral instruction: they need grace, forgiveness, hope, compassion, and love. They need the transforming power of God’s redemptive mercy in Christ.
Our ministries fall into two broad categories: serving and teaching, and include a wide range of practical services including pregnancy tests, ultra-sounds, needed supplies, STI testing, as well as education, counseling, programs and practical training. The GOSPEL also sharpens our ministry focus as we teach people to embrace God’s value for every human life, born and unborn. This conviction is rooted in Scripture and verified by science, and finds its greatest demonstration in the GOSPEL itself, where God demonstrated his love by sending his Son to rescue us from sin and death.

Our History

The former Pregnancy Care Center now LifePlan of Niles came into being to provide a compassionate alternative to the Michiana Abortion Clinic, which had existed since June of 1981. Others had been involved in the sidewalk counseling at the abortion clinic. When that ceased, a local man had a desire to fill the void. He perceived that sidewalk counseling was controversial and that some women were choosing abortion, not because they wanted to, but because they lacked the support necessary to care for their babies. His vision spread to other individuals, churches and organizations, giving birth to the Pregnancy Care Center in September 1985. Our doors first opened near the abortion clinic. Later we moved a few blocks away to the Broadway Professional Center, 1011 Broadway Suite 2, behind Rite Aid.

Initially, the Center offered free pregnancy tests and material items such as clothing and baby furniture. Referrals were made for other services, including adoption. The abstinence outreach program began in 1992. In 1993, we became affiliated with Care Net, a nationwide Christian support network for pregnancy care centers. After 12 years as an all-volunteer organization we hired our first part-time paid staff in 1998. In 1999 we were able to expand our hours to five days a week. Our popular Diaper Bag Classes for expectant parents began in 2000, a program that evolved into the Earn While You Learn Program, which has now been changed to be our Life Matters Program. This new program offers clients the opportunity to attend parenting classes while earning points to spend in our Baby Boutique. It also has programmed into it a rewards program for completing classes and a consequence for no-shows. A big part of this program is to offer an opportunity to reach and achieve goals and dreams specifically tailored to the clients.

In August 2007, in an effort to be a more obvious presence in the community, the former Pregnancy Care Center now LifePlan relocated to a storefront in downtown Niles, and resided at 311 E. Main Street. In August of 2010 the opportunity to purchase a house at 527 E. Main Street allowed us to have a more personable presence and we have definitely seen an increase in clients since the move!

In August of 2018, the leadership of the former Pregnancy Care Center now LifePlan met with Churchill Strategies for the purpose of rebranding the organization. The leadership has long believed that changing the name and logo of the Pregnancy Care Center is a necessary step in reaching the younger generations as well as a way of better representing our ministry and the populations we serve. Therefore, the leadership voted unanimously to change our name from Pregnancy Care Center to LifePlan. Our goal is to be operating exclusively as LifePlan by January 2019. The name “LifePlan” focuses on what we are all about – Life. Our mission is to spread the Gospel by helping people choose life and live a Hope-filled life. We desire to introduce our clients to the one who makes a hope-filled life possible – Jesus Christ. We pray that, through our services, our clients will truly make a “LifePlan” and will reach out to the one who ultimately is Life (see John 14:6).

Our new name will also make us more attractive to school systems and students. We are currently in the process of forming a project-based partnership with one of  our local schools. This will allow us to talk with students about issues related to healthy relationships and sexuality. One of our goals is to be a resource for the local schools and to serve students before they need a pregnancy center. Our new name will help make this possible.

Support for LifePlan comes from individuals, churches, and businesses in the local area. We are a nonprofit (501*3), nondiscriminatory organization. No government funding is received.
